Description

Nos. 6 and 7 on Neston Road are two houses built in 1893 by Douglas and Fordham. They are constructed of brick with stone dressings and have a tiled roof. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of four bays. The first two bays project under a gable, while the second two bays have a hipped roof. The fourth bay breaks forward under a shaped gable.

Architectural features include stone drip moulds, coped gables with flush bands, and quoins on the first and second bays. There is an end weathered stone buttress and some decorative diapering on the first and second bays. The windows feature leaded glazing; the first bay has two-light double-chamfered-mullioned windows, while the other bays have elliptical-headed lights in their mullioned windows. The ground floor windows include one light in the third bay and three lights in the fourth bay, while the first floor has one light in the second and third bays and three lights in the fourth bay.

A plaque on the fourth bay displays the date, along with strapwork and a mask. The entrance to the second bay has a segmental pointed head, and the third bay features a decorated lintel. The plank doors have strap hinges and two leaded lights. The first and second bays have a corbelled gable-end stack with two diagonal shafts, and the left return is similar, featuring a lateral stack with an abutting half-gabled dormer.
