Description
A group of three houses dating from around 1850, located on South Bank in Oxton, Birkenhead. The houses are rendered with a rough texture and have Welsh slate roofs. They are designed with symmetrical planning, creating the impression of a single, larger dwelling. The front elevation features five windows, with the outer and central bays projecting forward under gabled roofs. The central gable contains a full-height porch with a two-panelled door above which is an arched overlight protected by a hood mould. A two-light arched window with Y-tracery and margin lights sits above the porch. The flanking bays have two-light casement windows with margin lights on both floors. Numbers 3 and 7 are set at right angles, forming the outer gables. Squared bay windows with three-light casements are on the ground floor, while the upper floor has two-light casements with drop-ended hood moulds. The gables are finished with decorative bargeboards and finials. Axial stacks are present. The arrangement of the houses is documented on a plan of Birkenhead and Claughton cum Grange from 1858 by Mills and Fletcher, surveyors.
