Description

Pensby Hall is a house dating back to 1688, with later additions constructed in the 19th century. It is built of dressed stone with a slate roof. The main block is two storeys and seven bays; the first bay was originally a stable, while the second and third bays form a 19th-century link block. There is a single-storey bay at one end. The gable ends are coped with kneelers. The ground floor of the second and third bays has casement windows. The fourth, fifth, and sixth bays feature four-light single-chamfered-mullioned windows with king mullions. The seventh bay has a casement window. The first floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars on the second and third bays, and three-light single-chamfered-mullioned windows on the fourth, fifth and sixth bays, with the window in the sixth bay lacking mullions and having a casement. There is a three-light casement window in the attic. A 19th-century gabled porch has paired doors with decorated glass panels and brick gable-end stacks. The rear of the house includes a gabled wing, a conservatory with a gabled stone entrance and cambered lintel featuring a flower and shield, a projecting garage entrance, and a stable containing intact mangers. One wing features horizontally sliding sash windows. The interior contains chamfered beams, a fireplace recess with a timber beam, and a fireplace with a stone lintel. The attic has two unusual roof trusses, combining collar-and-strut and fishbone designs, though the fishbone elements may be later alterations.
