Description
Gathurst Fold is a house dating from 1708, with some parts possibly older. It is constructed of dressed stone and features a reconstituted stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and four bays, with the end bays projecting under gables. It has a stone base and quoins on the first bay. The windows are single-chamfered with most having dripstones, while the windows in the fourth bay have label moulds. The ground floor has a mix of five, five, two, five, and two-light windows, and the first floor has five, five, two, and five-light windows, with two-light windows on the inner returns. The datestone is located on the gable of the first bay and features a label mould. There is a cross-axial stack and a stack on the left return. A 20th-century gabled porch is added to the left return. Inside, the house has ovolo-moulded beams and chamfered beams with ovolo stops. The first bay contains timber-framed partition walls with wattle and daub infill, and stone fireplaces, including one on the first floor with an ovolo-moulded opening. The staircase features turned balusters, a moulded handrail, and panelled square newels.
