Description
Orrell House and Cottage is a farmhouse located on Orrell Gathurst Road, with a date stone in the garden that reads "JOHN AND/CICELY JACKSON/1737". The building features roughcast walls and a stone slate roof. It is two storeys tall with an irregular plan, comprising three bays. The first two bays have gabled roofs, while the third bay, which is a later extension, is taller.
The ground floor of the first two bays has a window with a bracketed sill, a rusticated wedge lintel, and a cornice above the key, along with a sash window. The third bay has a window with a wedge lintel and a single-bar sash. On the first floor, the first two bays have windows with double-chamfered reveals, dripstones, and single-bar sashes, while the third bay features a casement window. The entrance to the second bay has a wide-boarded studded door topped by a 20th-century gabled porch.
The left side of the building shows the first two bays projecting under gables with varied casements, and the first floor has a four-light double-chamfered-mullioned window in the third bay. The right side features three gabled bays, one of which is made of brick and has a blocked window with a label mould.
Inside, the farmhouse includes ovolo-moulded beams with ovolo stops and panelled doors with H-L hinges. The staircase has column balusters on a close string, a moulded handrail, and square newels.
