Description
Orchard Farmhouse is a house dating from the early 17th century, with later additions. It is constructed of dressed stone and brick, topped with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with the end bay being the original part. There is a drip mould above the end bay, and it features coped gables. The ground floor of the end bay has a double-chamfered mullioned window with five lights, while the other windows are fitted with horizontally sliding sashes. The entrance, located to the right of the second bay, has a large lintel and a 20th-century door. The house has one gable-end stack and one cross-axial stack. The right return has two horizontally sliding sash windows, with the first-floor window set in a double-chamfered opening; the attic features a two-light chamfered-mullioned window. There is a blocked entrance to the left with a large lintel. The left return is made of brick and has stone quoins. The rear of the house is partly stone and partly brick, with an outshut under a lean-to roof. Inside, there are chamfered beams and two stone doorways, one for each floor. A three-light double-chamfered mullioned window opens into the outshut.
