Description

Simmonswood Hall is a house, dating from 1687 with later additions from the 1880s. A datestone reads "JE/TR/1687". The house is constructed of dressed stone with ashlar dressings and a stone slate roof. It features a prominent base, quoins, coped gables with finials. The main block is two storeys with an attic, comprising three bays, with the central bay projecting under a gable. A single-storey lean-to wing is attached to the left return. The windows are double-chamfered-mullioned, with continuous drip moulds to the first two bays and label moulds to the third. The ground floor of the main block has a two-light window to the wing, a six-light window, and a five-light window at the end. The first floor has a six-light window to the first bay with a single-light window to the left, a two-light window above the second bay, which incorporates a datestone, and a five-light window to the end bay. An attic window of five lights with a transom sits above. The entrance to the second bay is set within a rusticated flat arch with a key. The left return and rear elevations feature double-chamfered-mullioned windows. The interior includes chamfered beams.
