Description
Maddocks Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse with later additions, located on Pimbo Road in Billinge-with-Winstanley. The building features dressed stone with quoins and a combination of stone slate and slate roofs. It is two storeys high and consists of five bays. The first bay is a 18th-century extension with quoins and a stone slate roof, while the next two bays form a later extension with a slate roof and quoins.
The first bay has three-light flat-mullioned windows, and the second and third bays have single-chamfered-mullioned windows; the ground floor windows in these bays have four lights with missing central mullions and dripstones, while the first-floor windows have three lights. The end two bays feature casement windows on the first floor. A gabled porch is located at the second bay, which has an entrance with a large lintel and a wide-boarded door. There is an inserted garage entrance in the fourth bay and an entrance with a plain lintel in the fifth bay.
The farmhouse has three brick stacks: one at the gable end and two that are cross-axial. The rear of the building includes an extension with a stack and various casement windows. An entrance has been created in what was originally a two-light window, where the lintel shows remains of the mullion. Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams with stops and a dog-leg stair with a moulded close string, square newels with round-headed panels, and boarded-in balusters.
