Description

A pair of houses, built around 1826-30, forming part of a terraced row in Crosby. The houses were altered at a later date. They are constructed of painted stucco with a slate roof, featuring rendered chimneys to the right and left – the chimney of number 26 being combined with that of number 25. Each house is a double-depth design, single-fronted, built as halls-adjoining properties, and with rear extensions. There are two storeys and two plus two windows in each house. A moulded gutter cornice runs along the top. A continuous verandah, with two plus two unequal bays, has simple cast-iron columns and a lead-clad roof. At ground floor level, the houses have tall, square-headed doorways which adjoin one another in the centre, each with a panelled door, a plain overlight, and a large canted bay window with 20th-century glazing. On the first floor, number 27 has two rectangular windows with 20th-century glazing, and number 26 has a pair of canted, flat-roofed oriels with sashed glazing and dentilled cornices. The interior was not inspected. The buildings adjoin numbers 24 and 25 to the right and number 28 to the left. All the listed buildings in Marine Crescent, along with those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn, and Marine Terrace, form a group within the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
