Description
No. 21 Marine Crescent is a house that is part of a terraced row, built around 1826-1830 and altered since. It features painted stucco and a slate roof with red cockscomb ridge tiles, along with a rendered chimney on the left. The house has a double-depth single-fronted plan with a back extension, standing two storeys high with two windows.
The most notable feature is the ornate two-bay cast-iron verandah, which has open-work standards and a frieze supported by large scrolled brackets. On the ground floor, there is a tall square-headed doorway on the right with a panelled half-glazed door and a plain overlight, alongside a large canted bay window that is sashed without glazing bars. The first floor has a pair of canted oriels with similar glazing and pagoda roofs topped with terracotta finials.
The interior has not been inspected. No. 21 is adjacent to No. 20 on the right and No. 22 on the left. Together with other listed buildings in Marine Crescent, as well as those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn, and Marine Terrace, it forms a group within the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
