Description
No. 18 Marine Crescent is a house that is part of a terraced row, built around 1826 to 1830 and has been altered. The exterior is finished in painted roughcast with a slate roof and rendered chimneys on both sides. The house has a double-depth, double-fronted layout with a back extension. It stands two stories high and features three symmetrical windows. There are simple pilaster strips on either side and a moulded gutter cornice.
A notable feature is the three-bay verandah, which has cast-iron open-work standards with heart and scroll motifs and a simple lead-clad roof. The ground floor includes a square-headed doorway with a moulded architrave, a panelled door, and an inserted overlight above, flanked by large canted bay windows that are sashed without glazing bars. The first floor has four-pane sashes, also with moulded architraves. The interior has not been inspected.
This house is adjacent to No. 17 on the right and No. 19 on the left. Together with other listed buildings in Marine Crescent, as well as those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn, and Marine Terrace, it contributes to a group within the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
