Description
No. 20 Marine Crescent is a house that is part of a terraced row, built around 1826 to 1830 and altered since. It features white-painted render with black-painted quoining and dressings, and has a slate roof with rendered chimneys on both sides. The house has a double-depth, double-fronted layout with a back extension and stands two stories tall with three windows, arranged symmetrically.
The front has a three-bay verandah supported by standards, featuring shallow triangular-arched friezes with elegant geometric lattice work and a felted roof. The ground floor includes a tall square-headed doorway with a panelled door and a plain overlight, flanked by large canted bay windows that have slender glazing bars creating four horizontal rectangular panes per leaf. The first floor has windows with shouldered surrounds. The interior has not been inspected.
This house is adjacent to No. 19 on the right and No. 21 on the left. All the listed buildings in Marine Crescent, along with those in Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn, and Marine Terrace, form a group within the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
