Description
This house, dating from approximately 1826 to 1830, is part of a terraced row in Crosby. It was altered later. The exterior is painted stucco with a slate roof and a rendered chimney on the left side. The house has a double-depth, single-fronted plan, with a rear extension. Originally likely two windows wide, the front now has three, achieved by inserting French windows at the first floor level. A prominent, five-sided open bay with a ground-floor verandah and a balcony above dominates the facade. The ground floor within the bay features a canted window with 20th-century French windows, and the first floor has a 20th-century French window flanked by sash windows without glazing bars. This bay replaced an earlier, similar verandah, of which one example remains on the left at number 30. To the right of the bay is a short, flat-roofed section protecting a tall, square-headed doorway with a panelled door and plain overlight. The interior remains unexamined. The house adjoins number 30 to the right and number 32 to the left. The listed buildings of Marine Crescent, along with those of Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn, and Marine Terrace, form a group within the Waterloo Conservation Area of Crosby.
