Description

These gate piers and railings front the gardens of numbers 2 to 14 Marine Terrace. They likely date from approximately 1847 to 1850. The piers are built on a sandstone plinth, about 40 centimeters high, constructed from dressed blocks. The railings are cast iron, with simple bar sections and arrowhead detailing at the tops. Gateways are positioned to align with the front doors of the houses, and incorporate piers with slightly varied designs, though the gates have been altered. The structure is included on the list for its group value, contributing to the character of the Waterloo Conservation Area alongside other buildings in Marine Terrace, Adelaide Terrace, Bath Street, Beach Lawn, and Marine Crescent.
