Description

The front garden walls, gates, gate piers, and railings at numbers 1 to 6 West Terrace date from the mid-19th century. Six sets of red-brick gate piers are present, with a single pier at the right-hand end. The piers are topped with low pyramidal caps, which appear to be made of concrete, although some may be of stone. These piers are linked by low stone rubble walls with chamfered copings, upon which stand wrought-iron railings. The railings terminate in flat fleur-de-lys finials, alternating between larger and smaller sizes. Gates of a similar character are present at numbers 1 to 5, and number 1 also includes a pair of older, similar gates at the left-hand end. Number 6 has a pair of gates from the late 20th century. The gardens are separated by low iron railings, with alternating uprights forming hoops over the ones in between, although this feature is absent between numbers 1 and 2. The structures are included on the list for their group value.
