7/1161 (formerly listed under Earle Road as Barclays Bank) 14.3.75. - II

Bank building, now surgery. 1890s. Stone with rusticated granite base. Flat-iron plan, 3 storeys with basement, 2 bays each side of recessed curved corner bay. Further one- storey parts to each street of 2 bays to Earle Rd, 1 bay to Smithdown Road. Cornices to ground and 1st floors, top entablature with modillioned cornice and blocking course. Ground floor has round-headed windows with 2 panelled colonnettes supporting entablature, small paned casements in upper parts. Windows in end bays have architraves and triple key stones, 1st floor windows have eared architraves and triple keystones. Corner window lacks keystone and has frieze below projecting cornice. 2nd floor has architraved. windows with keystones, corner window with triple keystone. Entrance has granite surround, eared architrave, triple keystone, cyma frieze and cornice, flanked by paired Tuscan columns supporting entablature. 1st floor has paired Ionic columns. 2nd floor has paired Composite columns. Top cupola has round drum with small architraved windows and cornice.
