Description

The Boundary Public House is a public house dated 1902, constructed of brick with stone dressings on a red granite base, featuring a slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has four bays facing Smithdown Road, a three-bay curved corner, and three bays along Lodge Lane. The building has a cornice over the ground floor, a first-floor sill course, and a top frieze, along with a cornice and parapet. The second, third, and fourth bays create a symmetrical design with two entrances that have granite surrounds. The first-floor windows are arranged in a 2:4:2-light pattern, featuring mullions and transoms, with balconies and two shaped gables topped with finials. The first bay includes a canted ground floor bay window and a hipped half-dormer. The corner entrance is adorned with pilasters and a broken segmental pediment, and the first-floor windows are arranged in a 1:3:1 pattern, complemented by enriched panels and a finial. A lead-covered cupola features an open stage with panels and an ogival roof topped with a spike finial, and there are two tall stacks. The Lodge Lane facade is similar in design. Inside, the public house boasts richly panelled rooms with alcoves, a tiled bar, and ornate fireplaces, along with a coved plaster ceiling. There are also 20th-century mural decorations in two of the rooms.
