Description

The Church of St. Clement is a church built between 1840 and 1841, constructed of stone with a slate roof. It features a seven-bay nave with lancet windows situated between buttresses, as well as angle buttresses topped with gables and deep, bracketed eaves. The chancel has a canted apse with a hipped roof and a triple lancet window. The west end of the church has a projecting center with gabled angle buttresses and a roof that is steeper than the rest of the building, featuring three stepped lancets under a continuous hood. An octagonal bell turret is present, with gabled openings supported by angle shafts and topped with a short spire and finial.

The enclosed porch has a pointed entrance, a gable with a spherical triangle panel, and gabled buttresses. Inside, the church has galleries on three sides supported by iron Tuscan columns, with an organ located at the west end. The iron columns with arch braces support hammer beams in the roof, and the trusses display significant ogival cusping. The interior also includes box pews and a two-deck pulpit with iron balusters leading to the steps. The chancel features a plain arch with an inscription, and the altar rail has cusped openings. Pointed panels displaying the commandments flank the altar, and the plaster vault is adorned with painted stars. This church is a rare example of an early Victorian church interior.
