Description
The Alice and Henry Nixon Obelisk is a funerary monument located in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Liverpool, and was erected in 1875 in memory of Alice Nixon, who died in the same year, and Henry Nixon, who died in 1892. The monument is constructed from sandstone ashlar and is designed in the Gothic style. It features a square base and a chamfered plinth, with a pedestal that has cusped blind arcading on round shafts. Most of the panels on the pedestal are inscribed and sit beneath a cornice. Above this is a square tabernacle adorned with cusped pointed arched panels, some of which are also inscribed, supported by shafts and topped with eight steep-pitched crested gables. The structure culminates in a tall octagonal spire, which is decorated with gabled lucarnes and a crocket finial.
