Description
Nos. 18 and 20 North Drive are a pair of houses built in the 1860s. They are constructed from common brick, featuring red and blue brick bands, along with red and yellow brick and stone dressings. The houses are two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and each has three bays. The end bays project forward and are topped with gables. A decorative cornice and barge boards adorn the top of the buildings.
The paired segmental-headed windows are highlighted by banded brick and stone heads with keys, and they have chamfered recessed yellow brick reveals. The end bays feature canted bay windows with iron balconies on the first floor and tripartite windows. The central bays contain pointed windows set in gabled half-dormers, while the end bays have paired segmental-pointed windows. All windows are sashed, with most lacking glazing bars. The entrances have heads similar to the windows and feature half-glazed doors. The returns also have canted bay windows. At the rear, there is a stable and coach house block. This pair of houses is a well-preserved example of residential architecture from the Victoria Park estate.
