Description

The houses at 37 and 39 North Drive are a pair of dwellings dating from the 1860s, forming part of the Victoria Park estate. They are constructed of common brick with decorative bands of red and blue brick, and have dressings of red and yellow brick and stone. The design is two storeys, with a basement and attic, and each house has three bays. The end bays project forward under gabled roofs, featuring decorative bargeboards and a top cornice. The segmental-headed windows have banded brick and stone surrounds, incorporating keys, with reveals of chamfered recessed yellow brick. Canted bay windows with iron balconies are present on the first floor of the end bays, while the tripartite windows are situated above. The central bays contain pointed windows within gabled half-dormers and paired segmental-pointed windows feature in the end bays. Most of the sash windows are un-mullioned. The entrances feature surrounds mirroring the windows, with half-glazed doors. The returns of the houses have canted bay windows. A stable and coach house block is located to the rear. The houses represent a well-preserved example of the architectural style of the Victoria Park estate.
