Description
The Hetherington Memorial, located 5 metres south of the east lodge at Toxteth Park Cemetery in Liverpool, is a funerary monument dating from around 1871. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and commemorates various members of the Hetherington family. The memorial features an Islamic style with a square single-cell enclosure supported by square columns and bases, and plain pointed arches. Above a moulded cornice, there is a square pointed-arched dome. Inside the enclosure, a square base holds a pedestal with a plinth and cornice, which has inscribed panels on each side. The pedestal originally supported a symbolic ornament. This monument is quite unusual, resembling those found in English cemeteries in India.
