Description

The entrance to Princes Park, dating from 1842 when the park was laid out by Paxton, is likely to have been designed by Pennethorne. It is located on the corner of Croxteth Road and Devonshire Road. The entrance comprises two low, approximately 5ft-high concave stone walls with an open panelled parapet, terminating in square stone piers, which are also panelled with cornices. In the centre of the entrance are two larger stone piers featuring channelled rustication, paired pilasters, and paired iron gates, accompanied by flanking single gates.
