Description

The Cross in Claughton is a Grade II listed medieval cross base with a shaft added in 1920. It is made of sandstone. The base is an irregular boulder featuring a rectangular socket that holds a tapering shaft. The cross head is adorned with interlace ornament. Attached to the base is an inscribed brass plate that reads: "This wayside cross was restored by William Fitzherbert-Brockholes in A.D. 1920 in memory of his two sons Thomas and Roger and all from Claughton who gave their lives for their country in the Great War."
