Description
The stable block north of Claughton Hall is an early 19th-century structure that has been partly converted into living accommodation. It is built from sandstone ashlar and features a tile roof. The design is symmetrical, with a central two-storey block that has a moulded pediment and two decorative bands. This central block is flanked by single-storey links that connect to lower pavilions, all sharing similar architectural details.
The central block includes a tall entrance with a round arch, above which is a lunette window with glazing bars. The right-hand link consists of two bays with lunette windows, while the pavilion on that side has one bay with similar windows. The left-hand link has three bays with windows that have lowered sills. The left-hand pavilion mirrors the right but includes a modern window on the ground floor.
On the east side, which faces a yard, there is a lean-to canopy roof supported by Tuscan columns. Claughton Hall itself was rebuilt in the late 1950s.
