Description
The gatehouse located approximately 10 metres south of Ashurst's Hall dates from the late 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features an artificial stone tile roof. The design is symmetrical, with a central two-storey section flanked by single-storey bays that are set back on each side. Each of these bays contains a two-light rebated and chamfered mullioned window with a hood, and they have monopitch roofs behind saddlebacked coping.
In the centre, above the doorway, there is a two-light chamfered mullioned window that was restored in the late 20th century. Below this window is a blank plaque with a hood mould. The outer doorway features a moulded round arch with a keystone and moulded imposts. The coping above the central bay has three segmental projections.
