Description
The lodge to the water pumping house, now a private dwelling, was built around 1870 and has been slightly altered. It is constructed of red brick in English bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The building has a T-plan, consisting of a short two-unit main range with a crosswing to the right, designed in the Elizabethan style.
It stands two-and-a-half storeys tall and features two sets of windows on the main range and one on the crosswing. The main range includes a gabled wooden porch at the angle, which has a round-headed archway and lead cladding. Above the porch is a very small two-light window, to the left of which is a three-light mullioned window. Above this window is a half-dormer with a hipped lead-clad roof. Continuing to the left, there is a single-storey extension with a cross-window and a coped gable.
The gabled wing on the right has a stone canted bay window topped with a hipped stone roof and a three-light window above it. A tall clustered chimney stack is located at the junction of the two sections, with a tall rebuilt chimney on the left gable. The rear of the building features various windows, including a staircase window with a gablet above it. The lodge forms a group with the associated water pumping house.
