Description
BICKERSTAFFE HALL LANE SD 40 SW 13/28 Gateway and attached farm buildings on north-west side of farmyard at Bickerstaffe Hall Farm - GV II
Gateway and farm buildings. Early C19. Brick in English garden wall bond with slate roof. Main part of building a symmetrical composition of 2 storeys and 3 bays, the central bay projecting slightly under a gable. Brick dentil course. The 1st floor windows are horizontal sashes with glazing bars and with stone lintels and sills. On the ground floor are 3 elliptical arches, the middle one taller with brick imposts and forming a gateway. The left-hand arch has double doors opening into a cart shed. The right-hand one is now blocked. Adjoining to left and right are single-storey ranges which have rectangular raised and fielded panels of brickwork. The right-hand range has been altered at the right by the construction of the gable of an adjoining building. Attached to the rear of the gateway is an animal pen formed by upright sandstone flags joined by iron clamps.
