Description
The gateway and attached farm buildings at Bickerstaffe Hall Farm date from the early 19th century. They are constructed of brick in English garden wall bond and feature a slate roof. The main part of the building is a symmetrical design with two storeys and three bays, where the central bay slightly projects under a gable. A brick dentil course runs along the top. The first-floor windows are horizontal sashes with glazing bars, set beneath stone lintels and sills. On the ground floor, there are three elliptical arches; the middle arch is taller and serves as a gateway, while the left-hand arch has double doors leading into a cart shed, and the right-hand arch is now blocked. Flanking the main structure are single-storey ranges with rectangular raised and fielded panels of brickwork. The right-hand range has been altered by the construction of a gable from an adjoining building. At the rear of the gateway, there is an animal pen made of upright sandstone flags connected by iron clamps.
