10/138 Buckhurst Farmhouse and Cottage 9.8.1966 GV II

Farmhouse and cottage, dated 1751 at 1st floor of 2nd bay, later extended. Sandstone blocks in diminishing courses, with quoins, stone slate roof with brick chimney at left gable and 2 others on ridge. Rectangular 3-bay plan, with 4th bay added at right end. Two storeys; continuous dripcourse, moulded gutter cornice; 3 doorways to front: 2 at junction of 1st and 2nd bays, one between 2nd and 3rd, that to 2nd bay inserted and plain, others with chamfered surrounds, board doors, open-gabled porches of solid slabs. Original house has double-chamfered mullion windows at ground floor of 4,3, and 4 lights, chamfered flush mullion windows at 1st floor also 4,3, and 4 lights. Added bay has one 4-light mullion window on each floor. Below second 1st floor window is datestone with moulded round-headed panel inscribed L , protected I.M 1751 by a cornice. Right return wall has doorway and 2-light window at ground floor, 3-light window above. Rear wall has blocked chamfered doorway to 3rd bay, stairlight cross-window to 1st bay, and 3 windows on each floor similar to those at the front.
