Description
Buckhurst Farmhouse and Cottage is a farmhouse and cottage dated 1751, located on Sales's Lane in Ramsbottom. The building is constructed from sandstone blocks arranged in diminishing courses, with quoins and a stone slate roof featuring a brick chimney at the left gable and two additional chimneys on the ridge. It has a rectangular three-bay plan, with a fourth bay added to the right end.
The structure stands two storeys high and features a continuous drip course and a moulded gutter cornice. The front has three doorways: two at the junction of the first and second bays and one between the second and third bays. The doorway in the second bay is plain and has been inserted, while the other two have chamfered surrounds, board doors, and open-gabled porches made of solid slabs.
The original house includes double-chamfered mullion windows on the ground floor with configurations of four, three, and four lights, and chamfered flush mullion windows on the first floor with the same arrangements. The added bay has one four-light mullion window on each floor. Below the second first-floor window is a datestone with a moulded round-headed panel inscribed "L, protected I.M 1751" by a cornice.
On the right return wall, there is a doorway and a two-light window at ground level, with a three-light window above. The rear wall features a blocked chamfered doorway to the third bay, a stairlight cross-window to the first bay, and three windows on each floor similar to those at the front.
