Description

Ridshaw Farmhouse and the attached barn date from the late 17th century and have been altered over time. The building is constructed of slobbered rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. There is a brick chimney near the left gable and a modern brick chimney on the front wall. The structure has a two-bay end-baffle-entry plan and stands two storeys high, with a single-storey porch on the left end wall and a four-bay barn extending to the right.

Access is now through a small single-storey extension at the junction with the barn, which is reached by steps. On the ground floor to the left, there are two altered windows with hoodmoulds; the first window retains one mullion, while the second is partly obscured by the extension. On the first floor, there are two three-light chamfered mullion windows. The single-storey gabled porch at the left end has a doorway in its gable wall and a small vertical rectangular window to the left.

The rear wall features a two-light firewindow, a single-light window, and a doorway, all with hoodmoulds. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace with a cambered bressumer, a sphere to a former doorway on the left, and two chamfered beams. The lateral partition wall displays large framing with some wattle panelling partially exposed. The barn has altered openings and a rear addition. The plan type is similar to that of Sales's Farmhouse on Sales's Lane.
