Description
High Hope Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, dated 1750 on the lintel of the door, located on Bury Old Road in Ramsbottom. The original part of the building is constructed from thin sandstone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof. There are two brick chimneys, one at the left gable, which is embraced by a higher barn, and another in front of the ridge at the junction with the extension. The extension is made of sandstone blocks and also has a slate roof.
The farmhouse has a double-depth layout with two plus one bays and stands two storeys tall. At the junction of the first and second bays, there is a doorway with massive chamfered jambs and a lintel inscribed with "K, T. .I 1750." Above the door, there is a square metal sundial. A thin hoodmould, stepped over the door, continues over a four-light mullion window to the left and a square six-pane sash window to the right. On the first floor, there are mullion windows with four lights to the left and three lights to the right, all of which are recessed. The third bay features a plain doorway with a canopy and a three-light window on the first floor. The later barn extending to the left is not included in this listing.
