Description
Owd Betts is a public house that was originally a farmhouse, dating back to 1796, as indicated by the datestone marked "R M 1796" for Richard and Mary Ashworth. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed watershot stone and features a slate roof. It has a three-unit plan with an outshut on the rear right side and a 20th-century extension at the back, along with a lean-to on the gable and a porch at the front.
The front elevation is two stories high and consists of three bays. It has a 20th-century porch and the datestone is located between the second and third bays, framed by square-cut monolithic jambs and a lintel. Each bay contains a three-light stepped square-cut flush mullioned window on both floors, featuring a mix of sash and casement frames. There are three chimney stacks, positioned on each gable and to the right of the second bay, with each stack being cross-axial.
