Description
This barn and stable, located approximately 1 metre north of the rear wall of Foulds House Farmhouse, dates from 1758, as indicated above the wagon entrance, but is likely from the later 17th century. It is constructed of coursed sandstone blocks with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has a rectangular five-bay plan oriented on a north-south axis, with the southern end very close to the farmhouse's rear wall. The second and third bays on the west side are aisled.
The exterior includes square breathers on two levels and a segmental arch leading to recessed wagon doors in the fourth bay, with the keystone inscribed "I:E:W, a doorway in the left inner side wall of the porch leading 1758." To the left, the stable in the first bay has an old blocked doorway with large jambstones and a lintel, along with a modern door beyond it. To the right, the fifth bay features a doorway with a rectangular lintel. The rear of the building has opposed segmental-headed wagon doorways, one of which is now blocked, and three windows. The north gable wall, partly obscured by the slope at the lower ground floor level, has two ground floor windows and a loft door situated above and between them, with a blocked square window to the left.
Inside, there is a two-bay aisle supported by an aisle post on a high pad-stone, with curved braces connecting to the tie beams. The roof features a collar truss design with angle struts.
