Description

Horton Grange Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century, with alterations made in the late 18th century and mid 19th century. It features scored render and a stone slate roof, designed in a T-plan layout. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a south-facing front with three bays, which includes sashed windows. The first-floor windows have plain stone surrounds, with the outer ones featuring central square mullions. On the ground floor, there are canted bay windows typical of the mid 19th century. The central door has a plain stone surround and a fanlight within a semi-circular head, flanked by Tuscan pilasters that support a broken fluted frieze and an open pediment. The gutter is supported by square stone brackets. The gables are topped with copings and kneelers, and the left gable has a projecting chimney stack, with a second chimney located at the junction with the rear wing.

The east wall of the rear wing features a tripartite window with a plain stone surround and square mullions on both floors. The north gable wall of the rear wing has an attic window with three stepped lights, double-chamfered with mullions and a hood. On the ground floor, there is a chamfered doorway with an elliptical arched head. The gable is finished with a coping and kneelers, along with a ball finial at the apex. In the north wall of the front wing, there is a mullioned window with an outer chamfer and inner hollow chamfer, consisting of five lights, although at least one light has been blocked. Inside, the farmhouse contains some boxed beams and a staircase with stone lower steps, cast iron balusters, and a mahogany handrail.
