Description
Horton House is a house from the mid-18th century, built of squared sandstone rubble and topped with a stone slate roof. It has a double-pile plan with end chimneys and features a symmetrical design with two storeys and attics, comprising three bays. The facade includes chamfered quoins, a moulded string, and a moulded stone cornice. The windows have plain reveals and lintels made of punched stone, and they are imitation sashes with glazing bars. The door architrave has been repaired with modern stone. The gables are topped with copings, and the front kneelers have ball finials. At the rear, there are some original windows with plain stone surrounds and square mullions, including one with two lights, two cross windows, and a six-light mullioned and transomed window. Inside, the left-hand rear room features a wide chamfered fireplace with a segmental arched head, while the right-hand front room retains a plaster cornice. Several doors on the ground and first floors are made of oak with raised and fielded panels. The staircase has a closed string, a moulded handrail, and some slim turned balusters still in place.
