Description
Jumbles is a house, probably built in the late 17th century, with some alterations. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, with some rendered walls. The building consists of a west cross-wing featuring 17th-century windows and an east wing with 18th-century windows. It has two storeys and an attic.
The cross-wing includes a double-chamfered mullioned window with four lights and a hood mould on the ground floor, along with a similar three-light window on the first floor. The attic window has plain reveals. The west wall features a window made from parts of a 19th-century mullioned window. The east wall of the cross-wing is watershot and displays a worn sandstone plaque that reads 'John. H_ _ ill & Richard his son 1703'. The west wing has gable copings with kneelers but lacks original chimney caps.
On the east wing, there is a plain stone door surround to the left, and to the right, there are two-light windows on each floor with plain reveals, square stone mullions, and tooled sills and lintels. Lean-to extensions are present at the rear.
Inside, the east wing features a moulded shouldered stone fireplace typical of the 18th century and a chamfered and stopped beam. A door leading into the west wing dates from around 1700 and has two raised and fielded panels with bolection moulding.
