Description
Fir Tree Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been altered over time. It is constructed from handmade brick, with the front covered in roughcast, and features a slate roof topped with a brick chimney stack. The building has a three-bay baffle-entry plan, with a projecting porch-cum-stair turret aligned with the chimney stack at the junction of the second and third bays.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a continuous drip course that runs around the porch. The two-storey gabled porch has a doorway that is offset to the left, featuring a hollow-moulded stone surround with a large shaped lintel that has no lettering. There is a peep window on each floor of the left side of the porch. The facade includes three horizontal rectangular windows on each floor, which have been altered to three-light casements.
A barn that continues to the left of the farmhouse is not included in the listing. The rear of the building is of less interest. Inside, the house part in the second bay and the former kitchen in the third bay both have large back-to-back inglenook fireplaces, which feature chamfered bressummers and matching beams with cyma stops. There is also a dogleg staircase with a closed string and a moulded handrail, with the balusters panelled over.
