Description

Newton Hall Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been enlarged and altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of roughcast brick and has a slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan, featuring a two-bay baffle-entry front range that has been extended to three bays, with a rear wing attached to the first bay. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has chimneys located at the left gable and on the ridge at the junction of the second and third bays. The front door is set in a modern porch, which has replaced a former two-storey porch, and is located at the junction of the second and third bays. There is another door to the first bay, which, along with the window to the left, is covered by a modern glazed lean-to. Each floor has three four-pane sash windows. The left return wall features two windows on each floor, with the windows in the rear wing being sliding sashes with small panes.

The interior of the farmhouse is particularly interesting, as it retains much of the original timber structure of the floors and partitions. The housepart in the second bay includes a firehood bressumer and two beams, all with stopped quarter-round moulding. The rear wing contains two large cambered beams with stopped ovolo moulding. On the first floor, there are timber-framed partition walls, and in the second bay, there are two large beams with cyma-stopped chamfers.
