Description

Isles Field Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1709, though it has been altered over time. It is constructed of handmade brick, which is now rendered and painted white, with sandstone quoins and a slate roof featuring gable chimneys. The building has a double-depth, 2-bay plan with a shallow rear projection in the center. It stands two storeys high and has a symmetrical façade, featuring a central doorway with a moulded surround that includes a shaped lintel inscribed with 'H W M 1709'. There are two 4-pane sash windows on each floor.

On the left side of the building, there is a small sash window at ground level and a 2-light sliding sash window on the first floor. The right side has a small sliding sash window on the first floor. Both side walls show remnants of small segmental-headed windows in the brickwork beneath the render. The rear of the farmhouse has a shallow staircase outshut in the center, with a 6-pane stairlight above, although the openings have been altered.

Inside, the entrance passage has been created by an inserted partition in the front left room. The beams in both front rooms feature cyma and tongue-stopped chamfers, with those in the left room supported by moulded wooden corbels. In the rear right room, one beam is scarf-jointed approximately one meter in front of the chimney breast, as the internal partition on that side has been removed. The staircase is an altered closed-string type, with square oak newel posts and a handrail that has a raised grip.
