Description

Syd Brook Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1709 on the east gable, with parts that may be older. It has been altered over time and is constructed of handmade brick with stone quoins and some coursed sandstone, resting on a plinth of coursed sandstone, topped with a slate roof. The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of three bays with a rear wing and a short outshut at the front of the first bay, which is assumed to be the south side.

The farmhouse is two storeys high, with the south front featuring three large three-light windows on each floor and a small two-light window in the outshut. The ground floor windows have segmental heads. There is no visible door, but a chimney stack is located on the ridge at the junction of the second and third bays. The left gable is rendered and has one window on each floor, while the right gable is made of stone and has a flight of external steps leading to a loft door, with a datestone above it marked with the letter "F". The rear of the building includes a segmental-headed two-light window in the third bay and a board door marked "I E 1709" next to the wing. The wing itself features a three-light casement window on each floor, with the lower window having a segmental head, and a gable chimney. All windows are fitted with horizontal-rectangular panes.

Inside, the rear wing contains a large cambered hearth bressummer that extends the full width of the wing, and the room above has a partition close to this line, which may indicate the remains of a smoke bay; otherwise, the interior has been altered.
