Description
The Black Bull Hotel is a farmhouse that has been converted into a public house. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone alterations and extensions. The building is constructed from squared red sandstone in diminishing courses, with quoins and a tiled roof. It features three bays, along with modern additions to the rear that are not included in the listing.
The structure is two storeys high and has a modern lean-to porch at the junction of the second and third bays, with a large inserted window above. On the left side at ground floor, there are deeply recessed coupled five and six-light windows with cavetto mullions and a hoodmould above. The first four lights of the second window are blocked and painted to resemble glazing bars. At the first floor, there are two similar four-light windows, with the second also blocked and painted. To the right of the porch, the third bay has one three-light 18th-century casement window on each floor. The building has ridge and gable end chimneys, while the sides and rear are of less architectural interest.
Inside, the first bay features two longitudinal boxed beams, the second bay contains two large stop-chamfered beams, and the third bay has a stop-chamfered beam along with an inglenook that includes a stone fireplace and a bread oven.
