Description
The Grove is an early 19th-century house located on Mawdesley Smithy Lane. It is built of brick on a stone base and has a slate roof. The house features a double-depth, three-bay plan with a rear service wing and stands two storeys high. Its design is symmetrical, with gable chimneys and a moulded eaves cornice that is interrupted in the center by a slightly stepped-out gabled bay. The entrance includes a panelled door set within a recessed Tuscan doorcase, topped by an elliptical fanlight with radiating glazing bars. On the ground floor, there are two large 24-paned sashed windows, while the upper floor has three smaller sashed windows, all featuring stone sills and splayed stone heads. Similar windows can be found in the left gable wall and at the rear, although some have been altered. Additionally, there is a rectangular stairlight.
