Description
The Willows is a house dating to 1770, located in Mawdesley, Lancashire. It has a high stone plinth with chamfered copings, and is constructed of handmade brick with dressed stone quoins, topped with a stone slate roof that is hipped at the right end. The house follows an L-shaped plan, with a main three-bay block and a recessed wing to the rear of the third bay. The facade has two storeys. A fielded panel door is situated at the junction of the second and third bays. There are three 16-pane sashes at ground floor level, and three 12-pane sashes above; the ground floor sashes are topped with keystones within gauged segmental brick arches. A square datestone inscribed "J R" is located above the door on the first floor. The right return wall, largely dating to 1770, is covered by a large lean-to glazed porch or conservatory. A ridge chimney is present on the wing. A later addition to the left end, now a separate dwelling, is not included in this listing. The interior has not been inspected.
