Description
This milestone, located on the west side of the road opposite number 650, dates from the mid- to later 18th century. It is a convex triangular stone with a rounded top, standing approximately one metre high. The stone features recessed panels on each of its two sides facing the road, which are lettered in cursive script: "To Garstang 5 Miles" and "To Preston 53/4 Miles." This milestone was erected by the Preston and Garstang Turnpike Trust, which was established in 1751, and it is one of ten such milestones that remain in an unbroken sequence.
