Description
This milestone, located on the west side of the road approximately 50 metres north of Helm's Farm, dates from the mid- to later 18th century. It is a convex triangular stone with a rounded top, featuring recessed panels on each of the two sides facing the road. The panels are lettered in cursive script, stating "To Garstang" and "To Preston 63/4" (with the word "Miles" at the bottom of each panel obscured by raised ground level). The milestone was erected by the Preston and Garstang Turnpike Trust, which was established in 1751, and is one of ten such milestones that remain in an unbroken sequence.
