Description
This milestone, located on the west side of the road outside Harris Orphanage, dates from the mid to late 18th century. It is a convex triangular stone approximately 1 metre high, featuring a rounded top and a recessed panel on each of the two sides facing the road. The panels are lettered in cursive script, indicating distances: "To Garstang 8¾ Miles" and "To Preston 2 Miles." This milestone was erected by the Preston and Garstang Turnpike Trust, which was established in 1751, and it is one of ten milestones that form an unbroken sequence.
