GRIMSARGH (off) WHITTINGHAM LANE Dixon's Farmhouse

II Farmhouse, dated 1736 above door. Roughcast, steeply pitched slate roof with brick gable chimneys. Double-depth 2-bay plan. Two storeys, almost symmetrical; doorway offset right of centre has architrave with panelled pilasters, plain frieze, moulded segmental pediment, and immediately above this is a datestone with fielded panel lettered J D 1736; 2 large square windows on each floor, all now modern casements with glazing bars. Left gable wall has one window on each floor towards the rear and a little attic window near the front. Rear has large modern extension. Interior: 4-room plan; large hacked beams; otherwise altered.
