Description

Bottoms Farmhouse is a farmhouse, probably from the 17th century or earlier, that has been altered over time. It features a cruck frame covered with thick sandstone walls, with watershot coursed stone at the front and slobbered random rubble at the rear. The roof is a slate-clad gambrel style. The building has a rectangular, single-depth, two-bay plan and stands at one and a half storeys, with a single-storey extension at the right end. There are two tie plates located under the eaves at both the front and rear.

The main entrance is now through a board door in the extension on the right side, with another board door near the left end. Between these doors, there is one square window in each bay, the first of which is smaller, along with some evidence of earlier openings, including a vertical joint marked by jambstones towards the right end. In the lower stage of the roof, there are two flush vertical rectangular windows. The farmhouse has a chimney at the left gable and another near the right gable. At the rear, the upper half of the wall is slightly set back, featuring a small square window in the first bay, and larger windows in the second bay and the extension.

Inside, the layout has been altered, but the partition wall between the bays includes a full cruck truss, although the details are concealed. There is a staircase located in the front inner corner of the first bay.
