Description
The Church of St Wilfrid is a Roman Catholic church built in the 1880s by Withnell of Preston. It is constructed from snecked sandstone rubble and features a slate roof. The church includes a nave with a clearstorey, a lower chancel at the west end with a polygonal apse, an east porch, and a north-east tower. The tower is topped with an octagonal stone spire and has angle buttresses, two lancet bell openings on each face, lancet windows, and a moulded doorway in the north wall. The aisle windows are chamfered lancets, while the clearstorey windows have plate tracery. The west windows and those in the apse feature geometric tracery. The interior has limited architectural interest, showcasing 7-bay arcades with round columns and 2-centred arches, as well as an open timber roof with arch-braced collars.
