Description
Newton Gate is a house built in 1692 and restored in the late 19th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and has a slate roof. The building has two storeys and two bays. The windows are rebated, chamfered, mullioned, and transomed, each featuring hoods. The ground floor windows consist of eight lights arranged in rows of two, three, and three lights, while the first floor windows have four lights, with one light above and three below.
Between the bays, there is a two-storey gabled porch. The first-floor window in the porch has three round-headed lights and a chamfered surround with flat-faced channelled mullions and a hood. The door features a moulded surround with a shaped lintel that is inscribed with 'MN 1692'. The house has gable chimneys, with the right-hand chimney having a projecting stack.
